overexposed colors

I'm making a DVD for our amature martial art movie, the movie is made with a DV cam...

When i make the mpeg2 from the dv avi the colors get overexposed. Especially objects with alot of sun. The source DV avi however is not overexposed, so it must be in the TMPGenc encoding that im doing something wrong..

Environmental settings: Try fiddling with "Set equation for colorspace" - could very well help!

i cant find that setting.. were is it? I got version 2.57 of TNPGenc

tried all of diffrent color equations in TMPGEnc, tried CCE plugin for Premiere 2.64, same result.

I've attached a frame from our movie. to the left is the orginal DV clip, to the right is the 3500 bit mpeg2 frame. Look at the grass, its almost yellow on the right one.. Do any one have a clue what todo?

i've found somethign strange out, when i play the clip in PowerDVD i get these overexposed colors, but when i run them in scenerist (the program that i've authered the DVD in) the colors look like the should. But if i make an DVD image and mount it in PowerDVD the colors loook scrwed again!!!

If i play a comercial DVD it looks great even in PowerDVD

The problem is that i cant test the DVD i've in a standalone player yet because i dont have my burner yet..

Another try: save your TMPG project and post that .TPR-file.
And PowerDVD is no good tool to compare things. Try opening the mpg in DVD2AVI (you can really use it as reference)

i've open the vobfiles in DVD2AVI and it looks good there too.

Why does comercial moveis look good in PowerDVD and not my own DVD?

humm, I am having problems with DV and mpeg2's as well. But what happens to me is that the encoded mpeg2 is darker than the DV avi.

What I figured out so far is that Windvd plays the mpeg darker than the DV, but if I enable hardware color acceleration playback is fine.

If DVD2AVI shows me a correct output, should I consider my movie fine?

Just found out that if I set DVD2AVI Color Space to RGB 24bit movie is fine, but if I set to YUV 4:2:2 movie is dark.

So, anybody care to explain?

PowerDVD has profiles for colour control - check under the video tab in configuration. Looks like yours might be set to 'Vivid', give 'Original' a try.

Nice, it worked.. Hehe. strange that its not showing on comercial DVD's. I havent changed that option since I've installed PowerDVD so it must be on by default?

I got a 5.1 live card (with a 6 channel speaker set)... but i cant select surround in PowerDVD, do you know why?

Think it's because you should just pass the digital audio stream (SP/Dif .. or something) straight through to your SB card to do the decoding. More of this in the audio forum, believe it or not :)
