New ALi IDE driver from 1.091package really rocks!!

As the topic says...

I have installed this new release (entire the driver package) to some PCs at work, and I must admit that ALi has made an excellent job, NOT ONLY the newer driver if far better than old but with CD-DVD-ROMs units it seems to perform even better than certain VIA/Intel machines... ? !? !?
Especially the sequential read(ahead) is outstanding.

Now I remember the importance given by Doom9 when mentioned this in the homepage's news ;).


(although I still point AMD/VIA as best performers... and 100% stable with the RIGHT motherboard brand :D)

What's the right motherboard brand for AMD/VIA in your opinion?

Epox 8KHA+ one of the most acclaimed DDR 266 boards (VIA KT266A) very high fast and stable FSB! (180-200)
Epox 8K3A+ (VIA KT333) Very good in all points (The one that can unlock AMD XP Thorog. just setting only a jumper!)
Epox 8K7A (AMD 761) King of overcloking (and one of quick AMD761 implementations)

Abit (KT7/KT7A were good and stable performers)

Gigabyte models are also nice in performance (often rated first) but don't know about stability.
(but lacks serious overclocking)

ASUS A7V-266E (VIA KT-266A) over here. Dunno about speed but extremely stable apart from Hauppauge WinTV (the drivers of this one still drive me crazy). I'm satisfied with my setup. Athlon XP 1600+ isn't the fastest of its breed but nevertheless it's encoding and encoding and encoding...

cool, the first one I can see with my exact setup - but as you noticed as well WinTV really suxs and therefore I switched over to Radeon AIW which is great

Don't get me wrong: Hauppauge WinTV is working well for capturing using the btwincap drivers. So my conclusion: The hardware is O.K. but the drivers are crap.
