Hello,

Is the mutual understanding that in order to open AVI file captured from a DV camcorder with Virtual Dubb, one must have a DV codec installed?

I am courious if there is a down side to this and if AviSynth can allow Virtual Dubb to open DV AVI with no DV codec installed?

Well, to do anything at all with a DV AVI on the PC, you must have a DV codec installed! Avisynth does not contain a DV codec.

If you want to open a DV AVI in VirtualDub, you need to have a type-2 AVI. If it's type-1, you can open it through AviSynth using the DirectShowSource command.
