DivX5 movie properties.

Hello. I recently got "Ghost in the shell" encoded in DivX5 format. I want to convert it to SVCD. I'd like to know some properties of the video stream such as:

interlacing or progressive
top / bottom field first

an others, but those two are the most important.

I want to convert the movie from 24fps NTSC to 25 fps PAL.

I know how to use the tools everyone uses, but since I work mostly with PAL sources, I don't know exactly what steps (pulldown, decomb...) should I take to get the best conversion.

Please, someone's expert help would be VERY useful.

whether your souce is progressive or interlaced or which field is first all depends on the particular video, not the codec. If it was ripped from an NTSC DVD and the framerate is 24 FPS then it is a progressive stream. another easy way to tell is to load the thing in v dub and look for interlaced frames.. but 24 fps was probably either IVTCed or force filmed so it is progressive. as for the field order, you can easily test that and find out which field order is the correct one in tmpgenc. have a look at this page, it will explain how:

in wmp6, when check for file--> properties->advance tab, it will show what is the codec used to play the file, but some time i see that it shows directx filter, will not show what is the codec used to palyback the file....

any idea what could be the reason????? I am facing this after i re-installed my win2kpro OS.

Use a different tool to see the codecs. For .avi files, I like GSpot: http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot11.zip
