View Full Version : IfoUpdate Time Table Question

I noticed in a previous post that jdobbs said that using the IfoUpdate option "VTS_TMAPTI Table Transfer" could cause some problems on a few occasions. I've been using this option on my backups and would like to know what kinds of problems it could possibly cause. I haven't experienced any problems yet.

P.S. Another question about using ifoupdate. When I want to transcode not only a single pgc VTS containing the movie but also a multi pgc VTS containing extras, what sequence should I use with ifoupdate. I'm doing the single pgc movie vts with maestro and doing the multi pgc part with scenarist. I've only tried cce transcoding both vts's once. Then, I named my authored vobs accordingly and put them into the directory containing the original ifo's, etc., and then ran ifoupdate on both single pgc and the multi pgc vts's. I tested it with PowerDVD and it would fail to even load to the opening menu. I was just wondering if there were options in ifoupdate I should not have checked on one or both of the vts's ifo files i encoded or a certain sequence they must be in etc. I'm not asking how to compile new title sets. I can do that with Maestro, Scenarist, ReelDVD, etc.
Thanks,

dvdRenegade,

The procedure for multiple PGC and single PCG is the same in IFOUpdate. But, when I do multiple VTS's, I do them individually, authoring one VTS at a time. For example, suppose you have a DVD that has a Single PGC VTS for the main movie, and a multiple PGC movie for extras.

Normally I would ignore the extras an leave them alone and they typically don't use a lot of space. Then I would shrink the main movie VTS to a size that will fit.

If, though, the extras take up too much space to allow a good encode of the movie. I will first encode the movie to a size that is as small as possible while staying above the line using the Robshot method. Then use IFOUpdate, etc. and change the original.

Then I would use the multiple PGC method against the "new original", break out and reencode all the Extra PGCs individually using a bitrate that would allow all of them to fit back and bring the DVD down to 4.38GB.

As for the VTS_TMAPTI update, it can sometimes create a problem when you use IFOEdit on the resulting file:

This update changes the perceived end byte seen by IFOEdit (I update without actually truncating) and it senses that at an error. It only happens when there is a large discrepancy between the new and original tables.

jdobbs,
On the 1 attempt in the past at reencoding 2 vts's (Black Knight), I think I did exactly as you mentioned. For some reason, it didn't work. I'd probably made a stupid mistake somewhere, so I'll try again.
Thanks for the info, dvdRENEGADE
