View Full Version : Can some dvd's just not be done

I have a DVD which is 7.39 Gig ish in size. It has 6 title sets 1 which is 2.5 gig and another which is 3.2 gig. Extras 1.53 gig If I encode these (ROBSHOT) at a bitrate which will result in less than 4.37 gig the quality is dreadful. (Encoding everything inc extras)

If I run CCE single VBR pass over the 3 gig (Min 0,Max 9000)

The file gets bigger to 3.5 gig :(

Is this simply one of those disks that cannot be done and must be split across 2 disks.....or am I missing something


Hope someone can help

While I'm not saying it CAN'T be done, it would be better to split it. Higher quality is preffered.

Hi,

looks liek an interlaced title. Interlaced material needs different handling.
1) more bitrate in general
2) an optimized quantization matrix (like 'DV mb1 interlaced') + the appropriate scan order 'Alternate'

I would calculate the max. avg. allowed:
BR = (size DVD - Audio - Authoring) x 8 [kbits/kByte] / fl [secs]

Example: 02:45:20 = 9,920 secs
DVD: 4.375 GByte = 4,480 MByte = 4,587,520 kByte
Audio: 448 kbit/s => 448/8 x 9,920 = 555,520 kByte

SubTotal: 4,032,000 kByte = 3,937 MByte = 3.84 GByte
====================================================
Authoring min. 50 MByte => 51,200 kByte
====================================================
Total: 3,980,000 kByte = 3,887 MByte = 3.79 GByte

BR = 3,980,000 [kByte] x 8 [kbits/kByte] / 9,920 secs = 3,210 kbits/sec

Bitrate for Full D1 Interlaced should be ~4.500kbps. If it is lower consider resizing to 352x576/480 Half D1, preferable with FitCD.

Best solution to retain quality, split to two DVD-Rs, or do DivX5.02 on 2-3 CD-R with GordianKnot ;-).

:confused: Full D1?!?!
I consider myself pretty experienced when it comes to DVD authoring. But that entire post has me scratching my head. :D

full D1 is just full dvd resolution, 720x480 for ntsc, 720x576 for pal.
