What frame to cut a SVCD.

Many of the SVCD movies are posted in 2 or 3 CDs. THey usualy have a 2 or 3 second overlap. Since I am authoring them on DVD and Maestro put's them back together I like to cut the overlap of.

What frame should I cut? I read here if the GOP is closed than cut between the B & I frame if the GOP is not closed than delete the B frames and cut between the P & I fram.

How do I know if the GOP is closed or not?

I found that TempGenc and the MPeg 2 editors don't do a really dood job. THey cut them but than when they rewrite the file audio is out of sync or jitters are introduced.

Please some advice on how to remove the overlap between CDs.

Changing viewing habbits is not one of the topics in this forum. Perhaps you didn't get the idea that I am taking all SVCD parts and author them on a DVD which means that every overlap is annoying just like your useless comment.

That was overly harsh. The stuff we do can be pretty frustrating when things don't go right, but let's keep our tempers, shall we?

Anyway, I've tried to re-edit MPEG2s before (in my case, I was trying to take out commercials that someone kept in their encode) and like you, f@chance, I found that the available freeware and shareware mpeg editors didn't do a good job. I finally ended up using a combination of DVD2AVI, AVISynth, and VDub to edit, and TMPGEnc to re-encode back to SVCD compliant MPEG2. Don't know if you want to do it this way. If you don't mind spending money, I hear Womble or Premiere is pretty good.

I have had the same experiences. I finally settled for AVI2Mpeg. It allows you to cut an MPeg file. You load the Mpeg file and click ENCODE. Than click settings and you can enter size, start and length of file. It is pretty good because even if you cut of 2 or 5 seconds of the end, it will automatically sellect the proper frame where it should be cut.

I have tried M-2 Edit and Roxio Video Pack. M-2's trim function produces a teribble cut version plus it installes the ELECARD drivers for MPeg 2 which are trash. Roxio wants to reencode, when all I want is to cut of a few seconds of the end.

The best solution would be to have people post the entire file and than let individuals do the cutting. But that will not happen until more persons burn DVDs.

Have you tried TMPGEnc or BBMpeg to cut? DVD2SVCD use BBMPeg to cut it, and so you should try it.

Well, yeah... BBMpeg is AVI2Mpeg2.
And yes, you can do a good job with it

I've made good experience with MP2 Edit Pro(4.0x) for cutting SVCD(VBR), rather accurate. More important: cut & join without re-compression. Only 1-3 minutes for a 850MB CD.
