stretched output

:( Hello, I am a newbie to svcd, but have been doing vcd for about 6 months. Trying this to better the quality. The problem I keep getting doing the basic rip/convert without any setting adjustments as advised is my 1min54sec test chapter is converted into a 2min 17sec stretched output file which has the effect of slowing motion and most noticable sound.
Can anybody please enlighten me as to what I may be doing wrong or what I should be/could be doing to advoid this from happening. Thanx

Ok sorry.
My system is amd athlon 1.4, 40g, 512 sdram, 34mb tnt video, ac97 sound, running windows xp. I also burn with nero 5.5+
As for the other things you may need to help me I hope this is the right stuff:

Converting Ntsc version of Training Days (chapter 11) 16:9, Think its an Asia cover says region 1. ( does not need encrypting when I rip.

I Think there is your problem. What settings did you make in DVD2AVI and conversion tab?
Did you edit you avs?

I didnt change a thing as suggested in guides for newbies. Settings? Can I change settings in dvd2avi? On the dvd2avi tab it is set to:
32-bit sse mx, lum gain -1, lum offset 0, ntsc field ops. automatic
Conversion tab I clicked the cd which found the dvd, I then went to movie length selected none and reselected chapter 11. aspect ratio: 16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3).
click ntsc to pal
seperate fields/select every (pal)
and clicked first audio stream.
As for avs? :confused: I did not edit them, will not change anything I have never heard of before.( not without instruction at least)
Also I dont know much but I thought that when I used dvd2avi for converting to vcd the role of dvd2avi was to make avi files that tmpg could use, and that tmpg would do the conversion from ntsc to pal. Am I wrong in this assumption? Do I have to change setting to dvd2avi? If so how? I opened dvd2avi but did not find anything which converted ntsc2pal.
I will try to do the conversion without changing the format
(no ntsc2pal) to see what happens.

Your right, I tried it without converting to Pal and it works just fine. (lucky I have a multi zone dvd player). Thanx for the insight, I will continue conveting as ntsc unless you can advice otherwise.
