I-frame error in bbMPEG

Hi all,
This is my first post in this very usefull forum, so please do not bite my head off :scared:
I've been using DVD2SVCD for about 1 1/2 month and encoded about 85 Movies and now lately I get this much discussed I-Frame error as well.
As I'm writing this I've just finished 'Dark Stories' and got that error again, back to back actually. The previous movie I did today was 'Dracula'.
I guess I'm just venting my frustration about this BUG.
Nobody in this forum or other forums seems to have a real solution or clue why this error happens.
Well maybe one of you guys can give it another shot and maybe find out what's going on and how to solve this eventually.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem.

Switched to TMPGENC since CCE constantly crashed. Now TMPGENC runs fine, but bbmpeg is complaining about "Could not find User Data at I-frame 4728 in file bbmpeg_muxed_file00.mpg". I changed the rate control mode from CQ to 2-pass VBR without achieving better results.
I am running out of ideas now. Used to convert ~200 DVDs using DVD2SVCD without any major problem, but since four weeks, I am not able to convert a single AVI file.

Well, I've got so frustrated with the I-Frame errors and nothing seemed to solve it. I even reset the bitrate settings back to default, which only solved the problem temporarely, still get the error every now and then.
I switched to CCE two days ago, did 4 Movies (2 on the Pc and 2 on my laptop) and so far no problems and no errors.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it'll stay that way.

To the quality difference between CQ and VBR 2 in TMPGenc, there is no significant difference noticeable, at least not on my Setup:
Pioneer DV 545S and a Hitachi CL43WP910TAN 16:9 Rearprojection TV.
I have just always preferred VBR 2 'cause it calculates the bitrate, thus final CD size (cutting point) more accurately.

I was using 2.56 and thought that switching to 2.57 might clear the problem but it didn't.
Now, that I'm using CCE, it's all good and I hope it stays that way :D

I registered with this forum just so I could solve this exact problem. I saw on another thread how a moderator fixed the problem by going into the BBMpeg tab in DVD2SVCD and clicked the Advanced Settings (bbMPEG Output Settings) arrow and he....

unchecked the box next to

Add SVCD scan offsets //produces I-frame error

Still trying to find that thread using the search button but no luck.

Before I stumbled upon that post I had encoded Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story 5 times before that error went away and I thought there has to be a better way than to just keep re-encoding the movie over and over again until the error disappears, so I decided to check doom9's forums because so many people said it was a good place to solve problems when it came to DVD ripping/encoding.....etc

Please do not disable SVCD scan offsets, otherwise fast forwarding and reversing won't work correctly on your DVD player.

What worked for me was the following procedure when the error occures:

Click on OK in het message box.
Click on OK in BBMPEG, so it exits.
Wait and you will notice that DVD2SVCD gui will kick in after a few seconds and scans the file.
After scanning it will process the next file or continue with authoring.

If you look at the error and the info in the info box, it is always the last I-Frame BBMPEG can't find. For instance there are 4235 I-Frames to scan and it can't find 4234, the last one ( 0 -> 4234 = 4235 I-Frames. ). I tested the above procedure and my movies played okay.

I know this is annoying,as mentioned in another thread I changed the BBMpeg code slightly so it won't pop-up the error, thus stopping the process, but instead just display the error in the info field and continue.

By the way after switching to CCE 2.50 I haven't seen the error anymore.

The SVCDs and CVDs I have done since unchecking that box have had no problem with FF & RW and chapters worked correctly in the two DVD players that I use to play my DVD Rips; an Apex AD660 and Pioneer DV444.

I did that and yes the video and audio play just fine but when I turned on subtitles I noticed that the subs were out of sync with the actor's voices by a large amount of time; ie actor would say line and >1 minute later the sub for that line would come up. After unchecking the "Add SVCD scan offsets" box my subs played correctly.

That is what I read in the forums regarding Scan Offsets, I am no expert to SVCDs and or video/audio encoding.

Sorry I'm not the author of BBMpeg, it is verry hard to understand the source code, since it is not well documented.

Did you have the problem using CCE also?
