Problem with a winrar file

I have a password protected rar archive that I lost the pass to. Is there any way to extract the file without the password?

good luck man. it is honestly alot faster if you learn how to crack encryption that it is to use one of those brute force apps.

i ran a brute force app on a .rar i protected myself to test it. i used 18 characters of which some were foreign and plain system characters. it would of taken a bare minimum of 18 months to find it.

im on a 1.33athlon so maybe if you pumping like 4 ghz you might find result's quicker.

best bet in the end is to learn how to crack encryption. atleast that way you can use that information across the board on more than just .rar. i took on the adventure of trying to learn the basic stuff of cracking encryption...i was in over my head after about 2 weeks and got out while i was still sane. it's possible to learn it but unless you want to make it your life for about a year solid it's not a wise choice

Hi, bad luck. there is no way to break winrar encryption except brute force methods or dictionary attacks. you can pay for software, i'd recommend www.elcomsoft.com/archpr.html . i have used my university's mainframe to break an winrar 2.x archive using a dictionary attack. it took 2 days. i believe that if your password is more than 6 characters ( i believe i remember that was the figure - it was short anyhow ) dictionary attacks are not possible. if it's important you can pay various companies to use brute force methods or you can wait and do it yourself ... though you may want to have a serious coffee break while you wait. oh, and chances are you will be waiting a loooooong time.
