...and it WORKS! Finally, we are able to view mp4 created with DivX 5.02 and Psytel 2.15 AAC with excellent visual and audio quality/sync. My test clip was about 10 minutes ripped from LOTR:FOTR of 720x400 (16:9, uncropped) video encoded at 3500kbps CBR DivX (Simple Profile only) with 128kbps AAC LC stereo, muxed with MP4UI (MPEG4IP 0.9.5.1 based). Haven't tried B-frames (will probably work) or 6-channel AAC (probably won't work) or XviD (who knows?) - please post if you have results for these. The plugin can be downloaded from http://www.envivio.com - I verified it works perfectly with RealOne also, haven't enabled it with Quicktime yet (which has its own pitiful mp4 support). This is a great day for mp4 enthusiasts :)

Please, about 2 more days no talk about envivio or sigma, please.

Trust me, it'll be worth to wait!

Thanks for your blind trust,
Best regards,
Koepi

Update: GMC works fine, B-frames makes playback "jerky" :( and Q-pel produces minor discolorations around the edges of objects. Stick with Simple Profile and the results are great.

Edit: Aww c'mon, Koepi, don't tell me Envivio has been "blacklisted" too?!?

It's not "blacklisted".

It's just about helping us (xvid) in a special case.

Please, this is nothing against you or any other person.

Thanks,
Koepi

Any news yet koepi?

Big boom should happen very soon... damn, taht's the problem with open source development, it all takes time to synchronise events.

I assure you, you'll notice.

And I hope you'll all support us then! :)

Best regards,
Koepi

P.S.: envivio licensed it's codec from sigma as rumours say. just a hint.

EDIT: envivio assures that these rumours are false. sorry that I took them for real. Thread reopened.

I muxed mp4 file with mp4UI (0.9.5.1) and the video (DivX5) was made with GKnot and the audio with AacMachine. It plays well with wmp4player but when I try to play it with wmp6.4 which has Envivio's new plugin the video is good but there is no audio. When I mux the mp4 it is hinted, optimized and ISMA compliant. According to mp4UI the audio file is AAC LC but it doesn't show any bitrate for the video or audio file. So where did it go wrong?

@teplun: Where did you get the binary for Psytel Aacenc.exe? There are different ones floating around, but the one that works best is the one available at http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/aac.html labeled "Psytel AAC encoder - MPEG4 AAC as default for all profiles". I am also assuming that you are talking about a 2-channel AAC, not 6-channel, which won't work without a 6-channel decoder.

Koepi:

I guess it has something to do with mp4 and xvid ? Can you give us any more hints ? I know there are some new things like b-frames qpel coming in XviD, but is it really this ?

Or is it a new mp4 player that is multiplatform and opensource ?

No more hints. Please respect the wish of the xvid developers to keep the talk about it very _low_.

Has btw. nothing to do with what you think it seems.

tanksimpson:
I used the older binary (Psytel AAC encoder 2.15 2002-03-02). So that's the reason it didn't play well with wmp6.4?

And what's about our wish for information?

I had the same problem too...if you are still interested, here is to get around it...

make sure that the first track of your mp4-file is the audio-track.
It sounds strange, but if you put the video-stream as the first track you won't hear the audio.

So first add the aac-file into the mp4-file, than add the video-file into the mp4-file, optimize it an enjoy the playback !

Seems that Psytel 2.15 marks the AAC files as MPEG-2 AAC, but it should be marked as MPEG-4 to be usable with QuickTime. The patched Psytel for MPEG-4 does this.

It should be possible to make a tool to mark a MPEG-2 AAC as MPEG-4 but AFAIK no one has done it yet...
