What programs to make screenshots?

i'm looking for the names of some good programs to make screenshots of applications.

This might help, but I dont know...

if you can, maximize your application and once that is all that is on your desktop press the print screen button. Now you have a copy of the picture of your desktop, go into paint (start-programs-accessories-paint) and once your in thier click on edit and paste (or press ctrl v on your keyboard) theres your screen shot.

If you could not maximize your application do those steps and when in paint just cut off the excess around the application.

if you want to take a screenshot of only current window you can do alt+print screen.
as for saving that image, i personally use www.xat.com image optimizer pro. i think it makes best looking/smallest images.

The freebie graphics viewer/editor Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com), in addition to being a great viewer, offers a number of options for this.

I used it to capture this picture of itself!

The link is actually real (I just re-checked it). It just doesn't work when clicked from the forum.

I'm pretty sure that YaHoo Geocities is viewing the forum's link as an attempt by an outside website to use graphics stored with them, and I believe they recently put something in to prevent that.

The link works fine (for me) when I open a fresh browser window and execute it from there. Sorry about the inconvenience, but Yahoo can be painful at times. Good thing they're free.

You should like this. 15 million users are seldom wrong. Latest version (3.75) will also do slide shows, thumbnails, and even screensavers. It will also accept a lot of Adobe-compatable filters, so you can certainly power it up way beyond the initial install.

If you use ALT+PrintScreen you will get a screenshot of the active program only (a screen shot of the window where the titlebar is blue). Then just paste this into your favorite paint program.

another question:

can i take a screen shot out of a movie (dvd, mpeg, avi etc) played with powerdvd or Wmediaplayer and create an Mpeg still in VCDEasy to be used as a menu page , or opening title page etc ?

i have tried to paste screenshots of DVD menus & video: the shot appears when you paste into paint, photoshop ect, but when i saveas .btm , .jpg ) and reopen the file the image is completely gone(black screen) why is that?

I don't know about those programs, but VirtualDub/Nandub do this quite easily (Click "Video --> Copy frame to clipboard"). These programs also let you step through individual frames, so getting the exact frame you want is a snap, and the quality of your screen shot is as good as the quality of your video.

PowerDVD has a built-in capture function ...

Use Snagit or Hypersnap DX. Both have the option to enabled DirectX capture so you can capture video overlay. Capture from almost any video player or even from fullscreen games.

how do you capture using PowerDVD? i have looked but haven't found the tool within PDVD to do so.

i want to capture menus that aren't picked up in the VOB's used in the conversion to VCD/SVCD

well it doesnt totaly fit here, but i found this nice program a mont or two ago
Camtasia Recorder! it lets you make movies of a specific screenare or the whole screen and with the producer that comes with it you can even encode it a little bit!
it is a trial version only though so you might look at astalavista.com and find a nice little program to solve this problem!

Camtasia's a class act, but at $150, you really have to need it! (But it does have a 30-day trial if you only need it one or twice.)

I found something on SourceForge called Camstudio (freeware, but I haven't tried it yet) that's supposed to do this also. If anyone tries it out, let me know how it is.

WinDVD also does screen capture .Use expanded view
on the control panel and look for the little camera .

...anybody should pay 150 bucks for the software! there's other ways to make a full version out of the trial versions! but ok... this is not really the topic here!
