I have a quick question, and have been rather confuse about this.
Does good DVD-R makes good quality playback?
I have recently bought some DVD-R from judysdeals.com. After the recording process, during playback, I noticed occasionally image streaking. Where you could see the picture pauses for a split second, and you can see a color streaking, banding across the screen, or the image tends to jump/pixelated.
I did notice as much, or not at all, with recording done on Verbatim DVD-Rs.
Is it really the DVD-Rs? Or did I do something wrong during the ripping and buring process?
I am using DVD Decrypt, IfoEdit, and Nero.
Anyone, please help me shed some light on this? Thanks!

Yes, the media makes a big difference. Some DVD players are capable of playing any kind of media you throw at it, even the cheapest media you can find. But a lot of other DVD players will only play good quality media. Verbatim is supposed to be one of the best, of course Pioneer and Apple are probably "The" best.....
I have been testing TDK's lately, I'm hoping they're much better than the standard cheapie disk. The nice thing about TDK is you can get them fairly cheap at places like meritline

So it is really the media, not the way the DVD is rip and re-encoded that has a flaw. I will try your suggestions and test with the TDKs too! THANKS!

Use ADVDINFO to look at the discs. I got the $1.59 discs from Judysdeals and they actually ARE manufactured by TDK ("TDKG01") -- if you got the cheaper ones ($1.49) that may not be true...

JDOBBS,
Just wondering if those those dvd-r's from Judysdeals were able to burn in 2X mode or if they are 1X TDK's (Without hacked firmware of course). How has been your success with them? There appearence?

I tried the judysdeals disc to burn PS2 games too, and it does not like it at all. But if I use the regular branded TDK of Verbatim, it works great.
What is the difference between judysdeals and the regular branded ones?
I tried burning movies at 2x, and it did not work.

Ghamu,
Nope... They only burn at 1X on my A03. But I usually get up and walk away or use my other computer during a burn - so the 2X doesn't really matter to me.
I would think the discs are the same branded or not if they have both say "TDKG01" -- but there are other ("TDKG02") discs I know of that are more expensive (and I would assume support higher write speeds).

...yeah, I saw that on ebay, the single speed TDK's are going for good deal lower. I suspect that there is a difference in quality. TDK does use various outside sources for some of there media, and sometimes they use some very shaddy companies. For there cd-r's, I remember that anytime the spindles were from outside of Japan, you knew they were inferior quality. I think I the $2.30 nerds tdk's are worth it (if they are the 2x flavor)
