ok this is my first attempt at using a poll...

I would like to know if there was advertisement on the Doom9 webpage would anybody click on it?

It seems to me that investing all of ones time(or most of) into making programs can be very very costly, and it also seems to me that advertisements found on websites are a good way to battle the money flow problems. Now im not affiliated with any company and at the same time im not very wealthy, in fact, im pretty poor and the thought of giving someone 10 cents by clicking on an ad on their page appeals to me. I do wish to contribute money (in one form or another) and would click on ads almost every day if there were any on this site...
so my question (once again) is this, would you want ads on this site, and at the same time click on them to generate some sort of income for the people who run the site?

I am just curious as to what everyone else thinks about this ....

Did you miss the collapse of the dot-com's? It's been a long time since a click through earned anyone a dime, more like $.006 today. But if you'd been a reader of Doom9 for awhile you'd also know his position on advertising, so the question is moot.

acually there's going to be a similar question in the upcoming survey (just don't have time to complete it :(.. but even if the result were that people are screaming for ads.. I don't like them.. and I would only go for an ad if it's for a product that I can stand behind 100%.
Though I hope that the people voting "strictly no ads" don't forget the donation page ;) Nothing in free in this world..

As long the add doesn't have a pop-up, i wouldn't mind. But i wouldn't click on it unless Doom9 asks me to :D.

yeh id click it...why not. I already click enough to close pop-ups so im a natural at it...fuc i'd click it 2 times. But ive noticed i wont click it unless it IS shoved in my face. If it's just there and not in my face i wont take the time.

???

Is it possible to have it in the user profile wheter or not he recieve's pop-up's. Atleast then those who would click would be straight forward and click it for the boards sake. And if you didnt want to fake it and say you would you could disable it.

But yeh...i'll click the fuc'n thing like its the "IN" click to be.

i think banners are better, less intrusive (yeh, i guess it payss less as well). but at least if i wanna contribute i can click it, while when i use mozilla i have this pop-up blocker, so i'll never see it at all...

Why are poeple totally aginst it.. or are they kids and do nto realize it is a revenue maker for doom9, and that you SHOUDL click on it to support his site..or did you just want to take the poll and not read the rest of the options and think abotu them.

I voted "one would be enough and I would click on it so many times...." because I think it's a very easy way to support a website without too much trouble.
Another way would be these Amazon "wishlists" and stuff but that's also some sort of donation (= status quo).

If you click on the link in my signature you'll see how the German Doom9 website has placed its only banner... I don't think it's too disturbing.
BTW: Are ads paid by clicks or by views? I think views would make a nice revenue even if the per-click income is low... Ten thousands of visitors daily would do their share... I think you could even put a small banner instead of the "donation" box ;)

The only problem I see is the actual content of that advert... If you could have a banner of e.g. Abit there wouldn't be a problem, but all these XXX adverts blinking and jumping at you are _really_ disturbing... I'm against these, too.
