What do you think of scan convertors?

A friend of mine is selling a maxi scan convertor for £25. I've tried it on my tv and the pictures is good, but it never fulls the screen. Shes also selling a rage 128 card with tv out for £15, the trouble is I dont want to take out my geforce2... What do you guys think of scan convertors?

dont buy one without testing it. especially if you want it for video playback.

its nearly impossible if you live in the pal world that the video runs smooth because the refresh rate of your gfx card output has to be converted to 50Hz and the scan converters that i saw do that really bad. (i searched for weeks until i realize that the stuttering come from my scan converter and not from any of my pc components)

its another story if you use ntsc - you can set your gfx card also to 60Hz and its ok then.
