digital out (SPDIF) for notebook ?

I want to use my laptop to play my divx movies and use a projector to watch them. It will be even better to use SPDIF for those movies with AC3 encoded sound. However, I can't find any solution to take the AC3 sound out from my laptop, except one card from Creative Labs (external sound blaster), which seems too expensive ($140) only for this purpose. Do you guys have any idea about this ? Thanks in advance !

Well, if your laptop doesn't have a SPDIF or an optial out, the Audigy Extigy is the only way (unless someone makes a similar external soundcard).
