View Full Version : Possible ScenChap bug?

I am authoring Face Off and cam across what might be a bug in ScenChap (the newest ver 1.2). Here is the scenario:
1) Following Doom9's guide (CCE/IFOEdit guide using scenarist)
2) Exported the script to a .scp file and drag/drop into ScenChap.
3) Load main movie .ifo into Chapter Xtractor with all the right settings.
4) Copy and paste the chapters into ScenChap.
5) Click on the Create Script button but it gives me this error that I've never seen before:
"Error: Illegal time for 30 fps (1, 6, 35, 30)"
That is the time index for one of the chapters that was pasted in. Is this a bug or is there a fix? Thanks.

This is a bug in ChapterXtractor. It generates bad timecodes. Instead of these steps: 3) Load main movie .ifo into Chapter Xtractor with all the right settings.
4) Copy and paste the chapters into ScenChap. Try this instead:
3) Drag the IFO file onto the ScenChap IFO tab.
4) Press the Copy From IFO button on the track tab.
Or, even better, if you are doing a CCE encode, get a D2F file and use Copy From D2F+IFO.
Sorry for the cryptic error message :). It just means that in a 30 fps time code, frame numbers only run from 0 to 29, so the one you pasted in was illegal.

Thanks for the reply. So will this bug in Chapter Xtractor cause the times to be off? What I mean is, lets say Chap. 5 should be at 00:24:35:19, will this bug make it some other time? I ask becuase I've read about the chapters being off.
Do I just drag/drop the original movie .IFO file into ScenChap, hit the Copy From IFO button and then Create New Script? Or do I have to change the format that the chapters are in?
Yes, I do use CCE to encode but where do I get a .d2f file at? And then when I do have the .d2f file, do I copy and paste it into scenarist some how? Thanks.

ChapterXtractor has a problem generating time codes in some cases; the frame number can be wrong by one. By using Copy From IFO you avoid this problem.
The .d2f file avoids two other problems: Incorrect time codes in the IFO, and deltas introduced by the DVD2AVI processing of the VOBs. When you use a .d2f, the time codes come from it, and the IFO is just used to determine which cells are chapters and which aren't.
To get a .d2f you use a special version of DVD2AVI called DVD2AVI+frm, available here. It's identical to the stock 1.76 DVD2AVI, but it also emits a .d2f file when you create a .d2v file.

Ok, two questions:
1) When you say Copy From D2F+IFO, do you mean drag/drop the ifo into ScenChap and then drag/drop the .d2f into ScenChap? Or is there a Copy From D2F+IFO button (if there is i don't see it)?
2) Where is it that I find DVD2AVI+frm? I've checked Doom9's download site but nothing, and I've even searched goggle. If you can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

ok i'm not sure about this one (i've only tried it once, but it worked) but here's what i did:
i did what the guide said by opening the IFO in chapterxtractor, only i set the fps to 23.97 and used THOSE values and copy-pasted them to scenchap and they worked fine. maybe i was lucky, but that seems pretty easy.

dvd2avi+frm: will be listed in the download section once I make the next update. for now you can search the old news for the scenchap 1.2 announcement.. there's a link

1) When you say Copy From D2F+IFO, do you mean drag/drop the ifo into ScenChap and then drag/drop the .d2f into ScenChap? Or is there a Copy From D2F+IFO button (if there is i don't see it)?Yes, you have to drag both the IFO and the D2F files onto the corresponding tab pages of ScenChap. When you do this (and if you have dropped an SCP script on as well) then you will see two buttons, Copy From IFO and Copy From D2F near the bottom of the tab page for each track in your SCP.
If ScenChap is able to match the IFO and D2F together -- if they are for the same movie (they should be!) and if it can match the Vob/Cell ID numbers up -- then the Copy From D2F button will change to Copy From D2F+IFO. This means ScenChap will take the frame positions from the D2F file, and select those that actually correspond to chapters as defined in the IFO file.
You can copy/paste from ChapterXtractor, but it's more error prone, and ChapterXtractor gets the time codes wrong sometimes, in which case ScenChap will complain and not be able to proceed. It's easier and more reliable to use Copy From IFO, Copy From D2F, or Copy From D2F+IFO.

Is this related to ScenChap? If you export and then import the same script, does it work?
If not, could you send me the before/after scripts, e.g., "myscript.scp" and "myscript-chap.scp". I'll look at them to see what went wrong.
BTW, make sure you're using the latest ScenChap, 1.25 at this point.

unfourtunly i deleted the orginal ifo ... what i did was add 2 chapters manualy to the project then exported the script ... then i opened it in note pad and copy/pasted the scene parts ( 32 times ) and manualy added the time codes and changed the scene names ( 1 , 2 , 3 , etc ) ....
also i think the fact that my orginal ac3 was a long file name might of had somthing to do with it .. several of the errors went away once i renamed it from what dvd2avi had it as to sound.ac3 ( just no chapters untill i edited the file in notepad ) .... oh well .. i have the vobs i need now with the correct chap points.
oh and i only d/led the ScenChap last night so i have whatever ver doom9 has.
