CCE crashing at 2Gb file size

I read the FAQ where it stated that 2Gb for FAT16 and 4Gb for Fat32..... I have Win XP Home Edition and all my drives are NTFS formated.

Intel P4 933
C: has 20 Gig Free and D: has 45 Gig Free.

Is there a setting that I am missing in either CCE or Windows?

I was hopping that it was my AVI's, that were corrupt, but when I lower the bitrate to make it under 2Gb (unacceptable picture) it did not crash.

I believe CCE can't directly open Avi files larger than 2Gig.

To get around this you can save the video as segmented avis, splitting at 2000mb or less.

then drag the first avi into CCE. right click on it and hit EDIT.

Click on the 'SETTINGS...' button at the top of this window.

Drag and drop the rest of the segments here, in order, click ok.

CCE will now encode the segments as one long file.

Or simply use Avisynth to feed the .avi into CCE.. no need or splitting then.

I have AVI that are larger than 2 Gig and CCE read it correctly, but its when CCE is writing a .mpv or mpg that is greater that 2 Gb is when it crashes.

The error is (avisynth error cannot write to disk)

I encoded the same avi twice:
1) Multi pass AVE 4,000 Min 1,000 Max 6,000 with 3 pass. The dialog box showed most of the time 5.6mbps during the writing of the .vaf and when the sum came to 2Gb the eror message came on, the .vaf file was about 2,210 Kb.

2) Set MBR Q=80 Min 0 Max 3000. writing the .mpv showed 2.7mbps the file never eceeded 2 Gb, finished without errors.

What cce version do you use ?

If not try the newest one (2.64.01.10) ...

im pretty sure that Win XP Home doesnt support NTFS, but anyway:

the 2GB avi file limit is to do with video for windows, which is overcome by using DirectShow.

CCE 2.50 DOESN'T support DirectShow avi's, 2.62 and 2.64 do, but they only support DirectShow Avi's that are using a VFW codec (now that was the confusing part ;))

basically heres the best thing to do:

download the Canopus DV Codec (decompressor only) from www.canopuscorp.com and install it, it uses the fourcc code of CDVC.

download avi fourcc changer from www.inmatrix.com

now using a DirectShow editing app (eg premiere 6) export a DV AVI (which will be given a fourcc of dvsd), CCE wont accept this DV avi natively (2.64 and 2.66 might, but not sure), so use the avi fourcc changer and set it to CDVC and CCE 2.6x will open it properly and will go past 2gb.
