Hi all,
I try to crop the black borders in dvd2svcd. I was reading pretty much all croping problems but nothing seems to work in my case. It always crops the top of the movie but only very little at the bottom. I use FitCD and the line I get is:

BicubicResize(480,278,1/3,1/3,1,55,718,370).

I also used different numbers in croping (720x304) or as resize (480x304(370)).
At one time I got the first CD with perfect quality but no croping at all and the 2nd CD was cropped, lousy quality and the resize was wrong (long faces).
Computer is 2 933Mhz Intel 1gig memory 240gig Harddrives (Total capacity)

Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks

Read the FAQ, it offers a much better way of cropping that has always worked for us...

I did go trough the FAQ and was also trying a few suggestions from there (like ading the cropline) but dvd2svcd 109 3 does not doo anything with this line. Movie is just uncropped, quality is excellent. Then I also was on the site of DVD2AVI and my problem may come from the fact that the resize function is unfinished even tough the problem is cropping. I just was curious if anybody else has that problem too and found something I overlook. Since the program is a all in one I tought it should work. I also went trough "Hammers" instructions so I guess I go back to DVDx2 and use Divx502 again since I don't care too much if the movie plays on stand alone players or not. Trough, I have a little sync problem in DVDx2 but with the program aviinfo from Nick and his brother it is easy to sync the movie with sound and the quality is just as good over 2 CD's then with DVD2SVCD.
Thanks all for your time :)

Hi bebbi,

why do you want to crop all the black borders - you have to "zoom into" the movie then to maintain the proper aspect ratio and will loose some picture information from the left and the right then. And you will loose a lot of information when converting a 16:9 2.35:1 movie to a 4:3 movie with no black borders. And when converting a 2.35:1 letterboxed movie to 4:3 fullscreen you will get very bad picture quality causes by the heavy upsizing.

The SVCDs created by DVD2SVCD will have the same black borders as they have when playing them with your standalone DVD player - so were is the point?

You can't crop the black borders as SVCDs need to have a fixed resolution of 480x480 for NTSC and 480x576 for PAL - you can't create other resolutions by cropping the borders like with DivX movies. If you still want to try this see Q63 of the Q&A and follow it.

Hope this helps,
Gerti
