what is better to use, symetric or asymetric? i heard asymetric makes the mid range ugly.
the input file for nandub (d2v converted to avi stream) can u get this streamed file resized to what u want so nandub doesn't have to do it? or does it matter?
thanks

Why don't you give some tries with each one and find out yourself ;)?
After all, it depends on how you set the asymetric ranges imho. For asymetric, you can try low10-15/high25 for instance. (Also it depends on the movie itself and other settings you use of course.)
Personally, I got good results with asymetric low10-15/high25 in several encodes.

Sure, you can! Try using Gordian Knot to create an avisynth (.avs) script from the .d2v file (and read the necessary guides of course).
