Recently I made a backup of a PAL version of Rocky 5. I used trilights guide for dvd-9 to dvd-5 in combination with the ifoedit and cce guide and parts of the 'getting the best out of cce' guide. I reencoded the main movie to a lower bitrate and kept the menu and the single extra. The extra was a trailer and I didn't reencode it.

After reencoding the main movie I did all what was written in these guides and copied the ripped extra in a directory together with the newly encoded main movie. When I play the movie in PowerDVD all is fine, I can select the extra and it plays. When it's done, it returns to the menu nicely. No problems here. I then burned it to a DVD-RW to verify if it worked on my Pioneer 535. The movie worked, the menu worked...but the extra did not work. Selecting the extra made my screen turn black (VTS_02_0.VOB) and then gave a STOP command to the dvd player without playing the trailer (VTS_02_1.VOB).

Did I miss anything out here? Should I have run Ifoedit after copying the extra to the dir with the reencoded movie? If so, can I still fix this, even if I don't have the original IFO files anymore?
If anything sounds familiar to someone, feel free to give a hint.

Thanks in advance,

fiepke

The problem was, after authoring the movie in Scenarist I should have moved the new vobs to the directory with the original ripped files. Instead, I moved all ifo and bup files to the newly encoded directory. Then I ran ifoupdate and selected the appropriate directories. This way the files that were updated by ifoupdate were not in the directory with the newly encoded files, but in the directory with the original files. So I actually burned the new vobs, with the old ifo and bup files.

So the solution is quite simple, follow the guide word by word :) And move the original vobs to a backup dir, and move the newly encoded files into the original dir. Then run ifoupdate like the guide says.

Cheers.
