Encoding for the Archos Multimedia

Can somebody tell me what options and suchlike I want to avoid if trying to encode in MPEG4 simple profile for the archos multimedia(http://www.archos.com/us/products/product_jbmm.html)?


Note: I don't actually have one, or I would just test it out, just a member of a forum about it and everybody there is encoding using divx 5.02 single pass (yuck!), and I want to suggest that they can do two pass encoding with xvid for much better results.

I have it, I haven't tried to use XviD on it yet..

it plays back DivX5.02 in 2-pass and b-frames. 352x288 resolution.

This I think is great.

Wonder how this plays .avi files... isn't .avi IP of Microsoft? Interesting thing tho. Too bad it can't play higher resolution.

Rumors say people at DivXNetworks are actively working on improving the DivX support on the Archos Multimedia.. higher resolution is part of the rumor..

as 2-pass and bi-directionnal is supported, higher resolution is the only real cool upgrade I'd see to it... support for .divx files might be usefull also, and if the Copy-Protected DivX video worked on the Archos Jukebox Multimedia also, in case one thinks it's cool to download movies on the internet on-demand for 2 dollars per download and have them be ready to playback on this portable DivX player connected to any TVV, this I think is cool..

AN inbuilt CD player would be my idea of cool. You could carry it anywhere, plug it into your friends or familys video in on the TV and playback movie CD's. The pain of the hard drive only is that you first have to copy the movies to the hard drive from your computer.
