Is de-interlacing worthwhile?

What are the pro`s of deinterlacing a ripped dvd? I mean is there really a need to deinterlace one?

I was under the impression pal dvd`s needed to be deinterlaced to produce a good quality line-less picture, is this right?

Or am I simply better off just using simple resize and thats it?

Unless, of course, you have an interlace-free source, then yes, deinterlacing is worth the time, everytime. (IMO anyway)
