I just converted to foobar2000. Thatīs the player I always wanted and it made it attractive for me to backup my CD collection on my computer. I never did that before! So I donīt use winamp anymore!

Does anybody know if Winamp supports playing multiple files out of archives on the fly yet (ie. zip, rar, etc without uncompressing)? I rip pretty much every CD I get and like to keep them archived for easy tossing between my server and laptop and the space advantages. I'm stuck using a less mainstream player, though, since as far as I could tell the 2.x Winamp plugin API couldn't handle this.

I installed winamp 3, it loads like a FREAKIN turtle and is VERY heavy on resources, even when it is running. Eventually it stopped working altogether, and any time I tried to play an mp3 with it, it would just freeze up and crash. got rid of it, went back to 2.x, and now I'm happy again!

PS: TRY MILKDROP!! thank you for introducing me to this plugin, it is the SHIT!

I find that Winamp 3 is a good start for a new generation of Winamp, but it's kind of still in alpha state...

I just need certain plugins, and I won't use Winamp 3 because of that. However, for me it worked quite good for playing mp3s.

With Winamp 3 it seems there is no feature to write an mp3 or mp2 file to a WAV file on disk. As this feature is essential for me when encoding a dvb-s capture (which gives you an mp2 file), so I cannot recommend the use of Winamp 3. Winamp 2 has the feature so that is ok.

If that's the only reason you don't use Winamp3, then you could just use BeSweet to convert mp2 to wav.

Well, WinAmp is way faster than Besweet.

I'm sticking to WinAmp 2 for now because of the great AWE32/64 wav output plugin. It lets me listen to music with VirtualDub playing audio :D

Oh and WinAmp 3 is slow :(

The people at Nullsoft are trying to coverup the fact that Winamp 2.xx and Winamp3 1.xx are COMPLETELY different products and that Winamp3 1.xx should not be named Winamp3 but something like Winamp Studio or AOL Media Player. They don't try make the distiction that Winamp3 1.xx and Winamp 2.xx are completely different product lines.
