I have version 2912 of DVD maestro (or so it says) and yet when I try to install it on my XP box, I get the error Windows 2000 is not supported. Windows NT 4.0 SP3 is required.
Do I need a different version, or could it be that what I have is actually NOT 2912?
Any thoughts?

That particular build employed an InstallShield installer which would only unpack and install the program on an NT system. Having said that, the actual program files contained within, will operate under WinXP and Win2k. Hence, you need to unpack the Installshield installer manually, and then manually create program directories, and dump the program contents into these folders. To unpack the Installshield installer, use the following:

Arky,
Man, you know a lot of stuff! I have seen your name all over the place here. They are so many of us who need to be grateful for your interest not only in this topic but in sharing your knowledge. Its because of you and the other moderators of this forum that I have tried to avoid posting until I've searched for a good long while to find the answers. I appreciate all your time and energy researching and testing (I do it myself in other areas), and I don't wish to abuse it. Thank you again! I love this stuff!
BTW, the link to the attachment does not work for me. Some other place to download it?
In the meantime, I'll see if I can locate it elsewhere.

Hi, sorry for the long delay - I simply haven;t had a chance to get online again until tonight. I checked the attachment when I posted it, and I've just checked the link again and it appears to be working fine...
Let me know if you still need the file and cannot find it and I'll e-mail it to you.
All the best.

Thank you! The attachment did work. I am, however, having a bit of trouble getting it to work.
When I do i6comp l data1.cab, I get a list of all the files (screenshot here) (theamazingq.com/images/filelist.jpg), but when I type i6comp e -r data1.cab, I get 6 or so files, but I don't get all the files I saw in the list. The readme mentions something about file mask as well as some others things for the command line, but I don't know what that all means. Do I have the syntax right?
The files I've extracted with Winzip and am trying to extract from are these. (http://theamazingq.com/images/files.jpg)
What do you think?

Guess what? I found a nice GUI for i6comp! Works really well. it makes the whole IS extraction process MUCH easier. Get it here. (http://www.ifrance.com/snoopy81/dl_en/WinPack231.zip)
Uh, now that I've got the files extracted, uh, how do I know where they all need to be copied to? Is there a file or something that will tell me where to copy everything, what dlls to register, etc?
ADDITION:Another revelation! I decided to try and run the InstallShield installer EXE in compatibility mode in XP:
right-click on Installer and choose Properties. Change options to these settings. (theamazingq.com/images/compat.jpg)
And the installer totally runs (valley boy accent)! Halellujah!
I love discovering things like this.....hope this helps someone else out there!

Hmmm...that's interesting - I don't use 2912 anymore, but I do recall trying to use ApCompat, under Win2k, to do exactly the same thing, but to no avail! :(
Anyway, all's well that ends well - I'm glad you achieved your goal. 2912 is a good build. Happy authoring!

Hmmm, Arky, "theamzngq" was referring to XP's "Installer and choose Properties. I d/o believe 2K has that option other than APCompat.

Thanks again for your help.
BTW, which build are you using now? The one I've installed comes with a bunch of "required drivers" for hardware I don't have. They have had an adverse effect on my system.

2915.
Don't worry about the "required drivers". Just let Maestro install as few as you can get away with, and then simply remove them immediately afterwards, using the "add/remove programs" wizard in Control panel. No big deal, and Maestro will operate perfectly well without them :)

What build were you using?
