Disc Dye

i've tried several dvdr's on my pioneer and the only ones that have played are datasafe. they appear to be of a much lighter shade of purple on the bottom and i was wondering if this is why they seem to play fine on my standalone.

also they are the cheapest discs i've came across, that is the cheapest i can buy in my hometown.

That's weird, since only the dark dyed DVD-Rs play on my Panasonic portable L50 player. No other DVD-R (including Pioneer or Apple) will play on it, but PrimeDisc will - I thought about the dye too. My other dvd players play light or dark dyed discs.
