Well i live in Aus

everything being so expensive here i figured i would buy either a new computer with a dvd+r/w drive or a standalone dvd(philips dvdr890)from overseas. I cant go myself bercause of expense but i have a friend who might be travelling to either bankok or london in two weeks. Now i need your help

Prices for a dvd+r/w computer burner(ricoh or philips)
and for standalone Philips dvdr890 in bankok and london

One more thing here we use pal so let me know what format you guys use either in bankok or london

If your friend is travelling to London, THE place to go is Tottenham Court Road. There are loads of shops there selling computer equipment, assuming he wants to buy "off the street".

Failing that, check out the web for mail order sites based in the UK.

Anyway, why go for DVD+RW.

Nothing wrong with the dvd-r format but it takes too long to format a dvd-rw disc also i think if i remember correctly you cant do "much" edits,chaptering etc with the dvd-r standalones like the DVD+RW standalones. If DVD-R was the only format in the market i would have gone for that

If i am not mistaken dvd+rw reflectivity is more(according to the specs what i have seen but real world tests will tell the tale)

If my current dvd player cant read it then i just go and buy one which can atleast wont have to give up certain features which are currently in the market.

VOBinstantCD+DVD takes 2 mins to format a DVD-RW for packet writing
Just how impatient are you ????????

and at 89p each for datasafe dvd-rw its not exactly expensive is it!

Please note
VOB has packet writing built in and will not work if any of the
other packet writing software is installed
(InCD, DirectCD, Bclips)

I'm not sure where your'e getting your facts from, but the differences between DVD-R & DVD+R in terms of "editing" are nil.

However, reading back on your post, It looks as if you want to record from and analogue input (TV ?) and then copy the recorded video to PC, then edit and write back to disc ?

Am I right ?

If so, the I guess DVD+R is the way forward for you, as it seems to be the format that most settop recorders are using.

www.secret.com.au has the sony ricoh MP5125A clone for 700 and something.
