when i do the first pass the out put file is +\- 2gig (120 min)
when i go the the second pass advanced everting is good (black background) doe i need to do the second pass and why

and my second question is how do i speed up cce

i got a speed of 0.9 a bit slow i think
it is a dvd2avi frameserved script like this

Yeah, that is kinda slow. I use an Athlon 2200+ and I get 1.79 speed. I really don't know what could be making it go that slow.

For your reference again, I have a P4 1.4GHz with 256 MD RDRAM and I get about 1.5+ speeds from CCE 2.5. I have done (and do) a few things on an ongoing basis that may have helped with the performance.

a) Tweak Win XP thoroughly for performance - you will be amazed at how many services and aethetics start up to slow down performance. For eg. with 700MB+ of memory, you can make changes to virtual memory to improve Windows performance.
b) Defrag your disks regularly. Constant ripping, conversions, etc. :) frag your disks big time.
c) Remove all unwanted applications - check and see if you have something running in the background that is detracting CCE from getting its share of CPU time or other resources.

Here are my observations using XP pro:

full size D1 PAL (DV source) 720x576 video only
1 pass VBR Q=20 no resize all filters off

Hardware:

P4 NW 2.0GHz @ 2.3
1.5G SDRAM 133MHz CL2 @ 153MHz
Gigabyte GA-8IDX Mobo
IBM 120GB 7200RPM ATA100

I get 1.15 to 1.25 only:mad:
I´m afraid its the SDRAM that slows things down.
Does somebody know what to expect if I would change the Mobo and RAM-type (DDRAM/RDRAM) ?

My Athlon is 1.8 ghz. I have 1024 mb of DDR and the difference between DDR and SDRAM is quite noticable. I have heard that a P4 with RDRAM is even faster. I didn't begin using CCE 'til after my upgrade, but with games for instance, in Q3 my levels load in about 3 seconds whereas they used to take like 12 seconds. Adobe PS also starts up a lot faster. I too tweaked my XP settings. Above, I posted a speed of 1.79, but after tweaking xp, I get 2.0 speed on average. Try these links. They helped out a lot:

thanks for this helpful links. I thoroughly went through the performance critical aspects of these tips, unfortunenately only to find that I already had tweaked them. Only raising process priority to realtime changed 1.25 to 1.28
I think it heavily depends on the material. If I recompress an already MPEGged file (.d2v or such) i get 1.86 instead of 1.25

I still wonder if spending $750 for a P4P533 Mobo and 1Gig of Corsair-ram or the like would be worth it. Or better stay tuned and wait for the 4GHZ barrier to be broken along with new RAM-tech

Well, I did it just about 2 months ago and I feel that it was well worth the ca$h. I'm happy to see my comp performing well under all circumstances (games, dvd work, and general apps). I did purchase corsair ddr 2700 cuz I'd heard good things about corsair. ddr made a tremendous difference. I feel handicapped when I use my friends' computers now (spoiled, I guess).:D

besides the SDRAM (the P4 really needs DDR or RDRAM to work well), another reason you are probably slow is because (based on your samle script) you are encoding at full frame resolution. This isn't really a problem you can solve, but it may explain why other people seem to be much faster, because they are probably using SVCD resolutions, so they are only encoding 2/3 the pixels (plus resize function overhead).

Oh yeah, forgot which forum I was in. I, myself use a full screen resolution too.
