is RV9 AC3 compliant ?

Hi,

Is it possible to encode DD through ac3 into a RV9 clip ?
Or is just RV9 reserved for 1.0 or 2.0 formats ?

I prefer to encode clips with 5.1 so is RV9 for me ?

You need to create an dolby pro logic 2 audio file from your original ac3 file. Easiest way is to use besweet or headac3he select surround2 downmix. Then encode it as ra9 surround mode. I don't know can it becoded using a 5.1 sound card, but it works with home theatre equipment using dolby pro logic mode.

No, it cann´t be decoded correctly to 5.1 speckers unsing RealPlayer.
Only external decoder does.

Well, lemme throw this out there... maybe someone can further clarify.

Using smil you can combine pretty much any audio and video files.

For example, you could use divx5 for the video of the movie and RealAudio for the audio. Type a quick .smil file and presto the audio and video play togther. Or the opposite, use RV9 for the video and MP3 for the audio.

But, how can I get the .ac3 file to go out (over my spdif out) to my external DD decoder?

i.e. Is there a codec for pass-thru of the .ac3 file for WinAmp or WMP?

I think 31Flavas is wrong. You can combine only real player supported audio and video formats, but AC3 is not supported by real player.

The Windows Media Player use a special directshow fileter("spliter") to seperate the audio and video data from the media file, and render the A/V data with the correspand directshow fileters("codecs") into "renderers"(video-overlay & directsound-diveice). The spliter is the base of whole work. For example, for normal .avi files it uses the "avi spliter" of windows own, for mpeg2-streams it uses the mpeg-spliter from I-Media/Intervideo/CyberLink etc., when you install a software dvd player or the filerpack of DOOM9. For AC3 .avi files it uses the directshow filter called "AVI AC3 X-Form) to splite the A/V-data, which was written by some freeware programmer and must be installed before playback. To get rm9+ac3 to work, following steps must be down:

1. someone(programmer) write and release a spliter "RM9 AC3 X-Form"
2. someone(hacker) patch the video filters from realnoe player so that they can be used like a normal directshow filter.
3. install a software dvd player or register its filter for audio playback.

As long as the rm9 codecs are not much superior to other codecs the
programmer/hacker will have no interest to do the step 1&2. Only pray may perform a miracle.
