Is there a sure way to find out the field settings of the original DVD stream? If so, how?

I am trying back-up BLACK HAWK DOWN, but no matter what kind of settings I am using, the picture still sucks on the standalone (on the computer it plays fine) On the stand alone, during fast scenes, it seems like a ntsc stream is paused (you can see lines horizontal lines around objects). I've tried -tff odd, -tff even, -bff and setting everything to progressive, nothing seems to work. The movie stream is progressive, so I don't know what to do now!!

If anybody out there has encoded it well, please tell me the settings you used in CCE! I really need this, I've been working on this damn movie for a week and a half now. It is very frustrating.

This procedure worked for the PAL version of this DVD (film only).

1. DVDDecrypt the DVD.
2. Use IfoEdit to get the film and the English soundtrack only.
3. Use DVD2AVI to get the m2v and AC3 files (but select Forced Film).
4. Use CCE VBR 2 pass mode, Q=30 and BIAS=10 Average Bit Rate 3900, progressive, top field first.
5. Reauthor in SpruceUp.

Result - The film just fits 1 DVD+R, quality excellent.

The PAL version of BHD shows up on bitrate viewer as interlaced. But, selecting forced film in DVD2AVI permits the use of progressive in CCE. No apparent comb effects in fast action sequences on the reauthored version.
