OK I downloaded this movie off of Kazaa and the audio refuses to work. The video works fine, but the audio doesn't work. WMP 6.4 asks me if i want to install the windows media audio codec, i click "yes", and then it says "a codec was downloaded but it doesn't work"
Is there any way to identify what kind of audio the movie has? It's an AVI.

Load the avi into virtualdub (or nandub if virtualdub complains about vbr audio) and then select file - properties. Check what it says the audio is. If it says something like tag 2000 then it is ac3 audio (the one that gives most people problems identifying). You can d/l a codec pack like tsunami or nimo (which contain these codecs).

Yeah, exactly the same happened to me long before. If it says windows media audio is DivX;) audio for sure, which is nothing more than cracked wma; then you have to install DivX 3.11a or else. You can also use this (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) wonderfull little app to identify the codecs within an .avi

Thanks for the link to "GSpot". Nice little program. By the way, do you know if it has any command line options? The web site didn't mention anything about that.
