MP3 to something DVD Maestro will accept ? PLEASE HELP !

Is there some program where I can convert my mp3's to something that DVD Maestro will accept ? I tried a MP3 to WAV program but that didn't work (Maestro wouldn't open them)

I also have some WAV files I want Maestro to take. How can I make it taken ?

Maestro should (i.e. WILL) accept WAV files, but I suspect you are creating, or have, .WAV files which are sampled at 44.1khz.

The DVD spec INSISTS on ALL files (whatever format they are in) being sampled at 48khz. Open your files in Cooledit, or Soundforge, and upsample them to 48khz. It is never ideal to upsample audio files, but if you really need to use them in a DVD project then you have no choice.

Another thing. I encoded a song in Dolby Digital using Sonic's Soft Encode. Now that I've done that, it still won't be accepted ?

How can I get Maestro to accept it without losing the Dolby Digital encoding ??

I cannot answer this question without knowing the parameters you used to encode the file in SoftEncode, and without knowing the EXACT Meastro error message when you try to import the file.

by default i think soft encode creates the dd file the same bitrate as the input file, so if you didnt upscale the audio to 48khz, then maestro wouldnt accept it cause the audio is most probably still 44.1khz

I still need to know how to change my WAV files and MP3 files that won't be accepted to some format that WILL be by Maestro.

back in arky's first reply he says to upsample the audio from 44.1 to 48khz using cooledit or soundfourge, i actually prefer wavelab, but either will do, and also premiere can do the job too (drop the audio on the timeline, export audio, and in the settings choose 48khz 16-bit stereo and set the sample rate conversion quality to Best.

Once you have followed the above steps, Maestro will accept your .wav files. Then, *IF* you wish to transcode to AC3 or MPEG1-Layer2, you can do this and, all being well, Maestro will accept these files too.

Obviously, .wav files take up a great deal more space than the more compressed MPEG1-Layer2, and AC3 sound formats. The DVD spec supports them all, provided they are all sampled at 48khz, and within acceptable bitrate parameters. Personally, I value video quality above all else, unless it's a music video/concert, so I usually tradeoff audio file size to allow me more bitrate for my MPEG video streams.

either if you encode to wav/mp2/ac3 with BeSweet, you need to add -ssrc( --rate 48000 ) to your commandline, to have a compliant audio stream for dvd.

where did you get this AC3 from ? isn't its sample-rate=48000 ?

We are going round in circles here.

It's simple - you can choose *ANY* of the following alternatives:


.wav

.AC3 ("Dolby Digital")

.mp2 (MPEG1-layer2)

.dts


You seem to be enamoured with AC3, so, since this is the case, you simply need to create an UPsampled (to 48khz) .wav file from your existing 44.1khz .mp3 file. You can do this using a wave editor such as Cooledit, Wavelab, Soundforge etc.

When you have created your new 48khz .wav, you can import it into SoftEncode and create an AC3 file which will be sampled at 48khz, as is necessary for DVD authoring. You may choose whatever bitrate you like, within the available limitations set by SoftEncode.

I promise you, this really isn't rocket science.

Well, I got the whole WAV thing done already. And the AC3, Soft Encode has settings with it so I changed 'em so they'll be taken.

I was under the impression that AC3 WAS Dolby Digital Surround Sound, so if it;s not, what's the name of a Dolby Digital Surround Encoder ? And what's the name of a DTS encoder ??

While I still need the questions on my above post answered, I got pretty far today.

I got Maestro to accept my AC3 files, and I've downloaded various MP3 to WAV converters, but so far all are trial versions and either won't let me or don't know how to unsample it to the right hz or whatever.

I tried downloading BeSweet which looks great, but when it's unzipped and I try to run the .exe file, a black screen pops up for less then a second then dissapears and nothing happens.

Still need a good program, so someone help !!!!

Since I don't have access to the software mentioned, here's how I do it with Adobe Premiere 6.0.

Load it up, and put your audio project settings to 48000 Hz.

Import your AC3s, then use EXPORT AUDIO under FILE. You should be able to export them here into 48000 WAVs.

These will then be *perfect* for whatever AC3 program you are using and will be accepted by Maestro.
