Problem with Anime: Blue Submarine #6...HELP!

Hi:
I've been using DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 Build 3 with TMPGEnc (can't use CCE 2.5SP) and so far, I haven't had any problems just using the regular settings until I came across this strange problem with ripping an anime called "Blue Submarine #6".

There are 4 DVD's to this set (20 mintues each) and I ripped and recorded the first one (Blues) with no problem at all (they take about 3 hours to do). The problem came across the second one (Pilots)...everything looked fine up until about halfway through then the picture started jumping. Its hard to explain, but its like your watching the picture then you see a scene from 3 seconds ago flash across the screen, then things start to get choppy. Its really strange...like flashbacks during the movie. This happens from the midpoint to the end.

Sorry I don't have the log file, but I really never changed any settings from the time I installed it.

Now before someone shouts out "Did you search the website", yes I did. I searched with "anime", "skips", and even with the title "blue submarine". I've serached through endless discussions (most of them had nothing to do with my problem), but I have even made some random changes to DVD2SVCD that were listed in these discussions, and they didn't help...like this one I read about for example:

"If you want you can try these settings and see what you think. They are what I use for all of my movies. Including Anime.

On the audio tab set your audio to 192 or 224. You DONT need to do the audio downsample as most DVD players can play 48KHz.

On the frameserver tab select TemporalSmoothing with a stregth of 2 and a radius of 1.

On the bitrate tab set the max bitrate to 2500 and the min bitrate to 300, uncheck min average and set max average 2350.

On the encoder tab select CCE with 1 pass VBR. Make the q factor 5 and set Image Quality Priority to 5.

With these settings and an Athlon XP 1800+, I can do a 2 hour movie in about 3 hours and the quality is some of the best that I have seen.

Give these a try and let me know what you think."

Naturally, I tried it and nothing changed...in fact, it looked worse with the damn CCE logo.

Really there should be a section here that deals with anime, then have the titles of anime movies, then list their problems and solutions with those particular movies. Trying to to find the answer to a problem sometimes creates more problems, waisting CDR's and time.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound upset...its just after searching, burning, waiting, etc...I guess I'm a little fumed.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What program did you use to rip these movies? Also I know that you said that you dont have the log file, but if you do some more conversions can you post the log file here?

What you may want to try is to check your movie before you burn, using "Daemon tools".
That way you can check the movie before any cd is burned, this is a must have for you my friend! forget the "Burn and check" step; and relay on load and check istead..... :devil:

Unfortunatly because the 3rd cd came out OK there is no way for me to look at that log file and spot the mistake that made the 2nd cd start to mess up. What I would try is to re rip the 2nd DVD the way you have been and do the conversion again. If you still have problems then post that log file. That way we can look and see whats going on.

Sorry it took me so long to get it, but here is the log file for the 2nd DVD of Blue Submarine #6.

Thanks for suggestion on using Dameon Tools...that saved me from wasting another CD, because the same thing happened again.

Again, right in the middle of the ripped copy, the screen starts doing these "flashbacks" from previous scenes just moments ago while running...its very strange.
I tried it again changing the "movie offset" to zero (thinking it was a sync problem), but it didn't help at all.
Any advice would be helpful.

Hi, I had the same problem with Gasaraki DVD #1. When I ran it through DVD2SVCD the first time. It came out bad. I looked at the log and it did IVTC, so I thought it might be that. So I did it again with IVTC turned off and it came out the same way. I've never had this problem using DVD2SVCD before, then again, I've only used it for a handful of DVDs. I'll post the log to the last one.

I'd also like to say, I did it the step by step way, with the ripped VOBs/IFO that DVD2SVCD put out. Where I do DVD2AVI->TMPGEnc (Using their IVTC.) AC3->MP2 (With Besweet) Then bbMPEG to split it up to fit on two discs and it did work that time. I just was w/o the chapters from the DVD for the last disc. (Still don't know how to add DVD chapters to the second disc you burn with VCDEasy.) The only difference I can see between the two, is I used Constant Quality with DVD2SVCD and 2-Pass VBR when I did the step by step option. I don't have the space anymore on my HD to be able to try doing 2-Pass VBR with DVD2SVCD. I ran out of CD-Rs and a little low on cash until the end of the month to buy some more. =/ I was thinking maybe the original poster of this thread could find out if that works.

No, no I don't think that's it. Because I was able to convert the VOB files that DVD2SVCD belched out using the step by step (long) way.

I'm sorry, I forgot to give you the specs of my computer:
Compaq 5108US
AMD Athalon 1.2Ghz
504MBs of RAM (My 8GB integrated video card takes the rest of the 512)
40GB HD (Which is really 35 after partition and Windows not to mention it is full right now.)
Windows XP FAT32 (I haven't got around to doing a clean install and NTFS)

Normally, it takes about 12-14 hours to encode something around 2 hours and 14-18 hours for the complete process of DVD2SVCD. (IVTC and downsampling included.)

I noticed by comparing the logs that we pretty much did the same thing when ripping. I normally do permanent subtitles, but this time I didn't. (Dubbed it, because my brother hates subtitles.) So that would be the difference from what I normally do with DVD2SVCD than now.

I also was reading the guides on doom9 and noticed, if you got the wrong field order, it will do something similar to that. Could that be it? DVD2SVCD judging the wrong field order and encoding it that way? =/ (I wonder if the subtitles I was doing before were keeping the field order right.)

Update, the problem was indeed the wrong field order. The auto setting picked A, when it was actually B. Thus causing the video error. That's why when I encoded it with TMPGEnc's SVCD templates, it picked the right field order.

So now I can't just pop in a DVD and let DVD2SVCD take over. To be safe, I rip a little bit of the VOBs and test the field order with DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc.
