framerate help

I do not have a DVD player for my tv, just on my pc. I found a DIVX player for my Dreamcast, so I've been decoding/encoding all my DVDs to DIVX 5.02 so I can watch them. The only problem is, they are coming out at 29.970 framerate. For the divx player, they have to be 23.976. How can I change the framerate to this without desync to the audio? If I use virtualdub, and dro pthe framerate by 2, it drops to 14 and some change and looks like crap. Thx in advance all.

In VD you have 3 different possibilities for changeing framerate. You must use the last one, called Inverse Telecine, that will reduce framerate from 29.97 to 23.976.
If you have progressive 29.97 material then using the Decimate() feature of Decomb is probably a better choise.
I suggest you read up on Telecining and IVTC. Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org) has some nice guides on the subject as well as Nicky Page (http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com) and this thread here at the forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23776) might also be useful.
