I am really into old films and find that encoding in stereo from a mono source is wasteful. How would I go about encoding audio in mono through Gordian Knot? Thanks for the help. :0)

You can force lame to encode to mono by adding the parameter -m m

So then the value in the Transcoding Parameters would read "--alt-preset 128 -m m", to encode audio at 128kbit/sec in mono; correct? thanks for the help :)

Yep, even though 128kbps is probably overkill for mono encodes, 80 or 64 is usually enough (and you should use --abr to set bitrate in that case, not --alt-preset as it will set sampling frequency lower than necessary.)
