I tried Gknot out a couple of days ago and I like it except it gives me quite audio.I set the azid setting to -L -3db -c normal but that just wasn't enough. My question is can anyone tell me how to get louder audio from Gknot. Thanks!

what i like to do is open the .avi up in vdub and set audio to full compression and then play with the volume on there, but for some reason, all the avi's i make with gknot have that damn vbr mp3 problem that my avi's didn't have until i started using gknot... with xmpeg, i used the same mp3 codec with the same settings, but for some reason with gknot, vdub has a problem playing with the audio.

You can always try "heavy" instead of "normal".:)

After much discussion on another thread and lots of testing, I have decided on these options:
2.1 audio:
Azid:
-a -c normal
Lame:
--alt-preset 128
5.1 channel audio:
Azid:
-a -L -3db -c normal
Lame:
--alt-preset 128
(128 can be changed to 160 or other at your preference)

@bigcat99:...all the avi's i make with gknot have that damn vbr mp3 problem...vdub has a problem playing with the audio.
If you use GKnot defaults, or set LAME options by following Doom9's guide, you will produce vbr mp3 via LAME. (It's actually abr, which is a form of vbr.)
Virtual Dub does not support vbr mp3 -- Nandub does, which is why Nandub is used to mux audio and video by GKnot.
You may alter the LAME operands to produce cbr mp3 audio in GKnot if you wish. See Lame_USAGE.txt in your GKnot ..\Docs folder for details.
From what I've read about mp3 audio tracks -- cbr makes more sense for music than for films, which is why both theWEF and Doom9 recommend vbr.
Of course, Ye Olde Search button can provide you with more insights into cbr audio, since I don't use it.

I think for music, cbr makes even less sense - VBR makes the most sense for music (--alt-preset standard/extreme) while ABR makes more sense for movies, IMO (sticks to a given bitrate).
CBR only makes sense if you need it because of some compatibility problems with video players or maybe stand-alone mp3 players.

I've actually been impressed with VBR mp3's so far. Even though
--r3mix isn't popular anymore, I think it works great for divx.
