DVD to DVD-R, wont work

i am new to dvd copying but i have been pulling my hair out over this problem, i try copying a dvd it all seem fine untill i put it in the burn program and it gives me an error, here is a list of what i do:

open up smartripper and rip all files to a directory;

use IfoEdit to determine which vob to keep and strip them down to the bare essentials (main movie,1 audio channel and one subtitle)

then i use the new .vob files and copy the menu files into another directory for burning,but before i do that, i open up ifoedit and click get VTS sectors, and region free, everything seems to work fine

when i open up gear dvd pro 6.0 and go to dvd-video (the wizard that puts things in the VIDEO_TS directory automatically) i select which directory i want to import, click ok, it loads all the .ifo.bup.vob untill it reaches the file VTS_01_01.IFO ( or VTS_0*_01.IFO depends on the main movie)

but if i burn this through nero, it will work untill i put it in my standalone dvd player where it will lock it up

Rob,

Some standalone players are very sensitive to DVD-R discs. Some wont play them at all !!!

What model of player do you have ?

To check out to see if it is DVD-R compatible, (I assume it's DVD-R and not DVD+R ?) check it out here :-

Browse through the site, there is a section where you can input your model type and see if it is compatible.

Secondly, there are quite a few issues surrounding DVD media types.
Who's make of disc are you using ???

Lastly, Nero has a few problems of it's own, what version are you using (latest version is 5.5.9.0) Have you tried another burner (I have used DVD Factory)

And yes, lots of people have this problem at first. It took me 2 weeks before I burnt my first DVD, but since then, I have not had any problems. (Famous last words)

If you have the "right" combination it should work, small comfort I know, but what you are trying to do is very "do able"

nope its not my dvd player,

as i have bought some copied dvd-r's from a friends, and i use the exact same media too, and they work fine,

its just that gear dvd pro 6.01 wont even let me burn the disc as it doesn't like the ifo files that i have striped down, but if i import the original untouched files then it will import them fine but they are too large for the disc,

can anyone help,
i think the problem is something to do with vts sectors even thought i pressed the button and did all that automated stuff, as it plays fine on the pc, but not on a standalone player,

OK,

DVD player is OK (plays friends DVD-R discs)

Media is OK (same as that used by friend)

DVD burning software (Gear DVD Pro)seems not to like IFO's.

I have had a few problems with burning "DVD files" with Nero. Nero does certain "Vetting" on the file structure before actually burning. It does this in the vain belief it is stopping you from making a coaster.

It sounds as if DVD pro is doing a similar thing.

One way round this is to create a disc "Image" first. Ifoedit will do this for you, if it fails, it's probably because you have a small application missing called "Imgtool". This can be downloaded from the doom9 site, check downloads>VOBtools>show me more. The file to look for is "Imgtool.dll" when you install it, make sure it's in the same directory as Ifoedit.

You should end up with a single file *.img. You will probably need to manually change the file extension to *.iso

You will then need to find burning software that will burn an image. Nero does, so does DVD Factory (I recomend this one). I believe both can be had for free trials.

In my early days of burning, I had a similar problem you have described, rather than mess about, I made an image, burned it, and it played first time.

Based on what you have described, this might sort out your little problem.

ive managed to get past that problem i had with gear dvd pro 6.0, because i read an another topic that there is an update,
so i updated the software to gear dvd pro 6.02 beta version, and it accepted the ifo files fine, and burn "enemy at the Gates" succefully

BUT, there is one dvd that i am haveing trouble with...

"SWORDFISH"

I have heard that it is because it is made by warner brothers, and there is a different way of copying them...

can anyone help me cos i am having a major problem with this one,
does anyone kno anyway to deal with warner brothers DVD'S?

The Warner Brother "Logo problem" has been discussed in lots of threads. Use the search facility (near the top of the screen).
