View Full Version : Just won't work!

Well, yes I followed the guide to the letter and yes I'm having problems.

Lots of different problems actually, I've done five attempts so far with no luck.

I'm trying to rip my first DVD with GKnot; (Vertical Limit); the audio worked fine first time with 0ms audio offset. However for the first 3 attemps I kept getting the error...

This kept creating a 35.3MB video file (nice quality) but it was just short clips from throughout the film (strangely like a compression check as the length of the movie was exactly 5% of the total time of the film) with the audio just going on as normal in the background, running through from the beggining.

After three tries with the same settings (just mux-ing the audio) I finally decided to up the resolution and it actually took 4 hours not 13 minutes to nandub it. I though I'd cracked it (even though the file size was around 1.4Gigs, I thought it would sort that out on the second pass). However, when it got to the second pass it just crashed (I wasn't at my computer at the time) and the log file just ended at "19:51:00: Started DivX3-Second Pass: E:\VERTICAL LIMIT DVD\Vertical Limit.avs". That was the last line in the log file.

When I got back, I restarted my computer and tried again (this time with the original resolution settings that I chose to begin with, and this happened after it succesfully completed the first pass...

I'm quite sure this isn't right. I was left with a video file of 22Kb which is just 1 second of black (with sound enabled if there was any).

I haven't seen either of these problems in the gknot forum anywhere else.

Please help. :( Thanx.

make sure divx3.11alpha is installed (and not any other kind of divx3), to be save - reinstall.

press 'preview' to check the frameserver before you start encoding. (you had comp-check activated but pressed 'save and encode' instead of 'now'...)

if something goes wrong again post the complete log and your avs-file.

Success! I un-installed DivX 4 (which I'd never used). Re-installed DivX3.11, and by the morning I had a spangly new 698Mb AVI file MAGIC!

Cheers the WEF! :)

Somethings gone wrong again! :(

I left the computer compiling 'The Perfect Storm' and something went wrong again. The computer seems to have crashed on the first pass this time. Have a look at the log.

Whats that all about then?

Thanx. Hatty.

PS. I installed Windows 2000 service Pack 3 just before I started this render.

Well, I tried "The Perfect Storm" again with the same settings "just mux-ing" the audio and this time it made a 701Mb avi (both passes completed) that played, but at very low quality (probably because its just a hard movie to compress), and with no sound.

I don't know if the sound is in there but something went wrong with interleaving or something. The MP3 file plays fine on its own, although its about 4 minutes shorter than the movie in length.

I'm going to give it another try just to see if it works this time anyway.

If anyone thinks they know the answer to this one your help would be, err helpfull. ;) If anyone thinks I should post the log for them, just ask; I left it out becuase it takes up so much room.

Cheers. Hatty.

hmm... i don't know, it has to be a setting or maybe you should try re-ripping the dvd, just delete all your vobs and restart, then try again. i got perfect storm to work pefectly, although i am using divx5 pro, it still should work with divx3...

Perfect storm worked on fifth attempt (hooray!). I think its because I installed DivX;-)3.11 alpha again just before it worked.

Then I did "Billy Elliot" and it worked first time, then I tried "Planet of the Apes" and it did its trick of entirely freezing the computer whilst in the middle of a rip (which seems to happen alot).

When I went to the computer when it should have finished, the copmuter had frozen with a black screen. It had compiled about 450Mb of the second pass, eek.

So I set up GKnot to do just second pass and mux audio, using the stats and ecf files it made on the first run.

I got this error though...

20:33:59: Audio 1, determined: 107230 kb
20:33:59: Audio 1, calc: 107230 kb
20:33:59: New Bitrate for Movie = 694 k(=1024)Bits/s

20:34:00: Original Bitrate = 694 k(=1024)Bits/s
20:34:00: Now encoding at 738 k(=1024)Bits/s

Does that mean it will leave out the credits which were not included in the calculations this time round?

Do I have to re-install DivX;-)3.11 alpha again and start again from scratch? Should I just give up on DivX3.11 and use 5.02? Should I get a job? Which zodiac sign is most compatible with me this month?

I need help ;) Thanx. Hatty.

Well, I think its about time to stop posting now because all I'm getting is the same problem over and over again.

Has anybody else encountered the computer crashing whilst in the middle of rendering with DivX3.11 [or 5.02] (pass 1 or 2)?

Does anyone know why?

Thanx alot. End Transmission.
