Does anyone know if there are any plans or products in development to make a dual layer burner and/or media for the general public? It would be nice to have the larger capacity available without compromising quality or integrity of a single disc. I'm not talking about dual-SIDED dvds. In my opinion those are about useless. You can't label them, and they're like using two different discs anyways.

Question was already asked before, and the answer was no.

Thank you. I couldn't really do a search for dual layer or dvd-9 because it would have taken about two years to sort it out from all the results.

A more complete answer: current manufacturing technology for dual layer requires that the layers be created separately, then glued together. One can't "burn" a dual-layer disc, even in a manufacturing plant.
But DJ is correct... you will find several discussions of announced technologies -- not products, but technologies -- to go beyond the 9GB limit. Just need to dust off that underused search button that you see at the top of every window in the forum.
