bandwidth throttle

I am looking for a program that I can use to control the amount of bandwidth my computer is using. I'm on a shared DSL connection and I need to be able to keep my bandwidth use at a level that is not going to mess up everyone else on the connection. Anyone out there know of a program to do this? I've been googling all morning and got nothing.

In which direction? If it's upline, most servers have throttles built in.

it's to control a bunch of different stuff. I'd rather have one program to just control the total amount of bandwidth that is being used.

some NAT programs will restrict the up/down access of other computers on the network to the internet, that might help.

Linux has a traffic shaper built-in into the kernel since some years now (since 2.2series if I remember correctly).

That's the most cost-effective solution, but you might want to have that on a special gateway-server(-computer) instead on your local machine. And it's not too easy to configure.

THe one I use is called "broadband Wizard" works really well provided you are not behind a sygate firewall.
