After doing a few movies onto some unbranded DVD-R media, the movies play flawlessly in my standalone dvd player...but when i go to do a copy of the movie, streamripper stops near the 3/4 of the disc...

why does my dvd player play these movies, while my dvd-rom drive (i've tried 3 different ones) freezes near the outside of the movie ? I've used about 10 different discs...

could it be that the laser is stronger in my dvd player? or is it that the media has a poor reflectability?

i heard about some new sony dvd-r/dvd+r drive that'll read these discs at 16X speed...but has anyone found a solution to this problem?

i heard that its an ongoing problem in the dvd-r community...

you have just described Bulkcrap dvd-r media...lots of bad sectors

the standalone player does not know what to do with
sector errors from the faulty dvd-r and so ignores them......

windoze has very big problems with bad sectors......microsoft
have never had much idea on how to handle removable media....
and errors in removable media and so either keep trying to read the
same bit of faulty data again and again....cos it can't believe it
or give up with a BSOD.......

Funny how crap at writing software microsoft really are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is there anything that i can do to do a copy of each disc to ones of higher quality?

or is it just that im going to have to live with not being able to copy them ...

You haven't put a label on the disc have you ????

If so, this is probably the root cause.

Anyway, why are you using stream stripper on your now "stripped" DVD. You can do straight "file to file" transfers.

I use Nero (5.5.9.0) and do "disc to disc on the fly" copying. No problem.

At worse, just file copy your "stripped DVD" to your hard disc, then re burn in the normal way.

i just found the solution ....

sarahjh69 was totally right in the post made about the bad sectors...

the solution is to use dvd decryptor's ignore errors...

i doubt that a person could go disc to disc..but hey, at least the discs are at least readable now

when i put the movie back on my hard drive (dvd-r), it took about 3 hours to transfer it back to my computer


there were about 164 bad sectors...but i didnt even really find anything missing when having played it on my pc's dvd player....
