View Full Version : Divx 5 playing Divx 4.12 files really crappy+

hey! i used the followinf methdo to install Divx 5 codec and Divx 4.12 encoder. I installed Divx 5.02 and then copied the Divx.dll (renamed Divx4.dll) to windows\system dir so i have both now. My prob is that whenever i play back Divx 4.12 files (its using the Divx 5 decodder POS) its looks bad like all the colors group together so it looks really bad, starts to look like art. face colors group together. i cant really explain it.

Its sorta looks like the above ascii art if u think of each different letter as a different shade of color. Can anybody help, Thanx.

why installing 4 & copying & stuff anyway, when 5 can play 4 files perfectly?!?!

Thats my problem! It doesnt play Divx 4.12 files fine, see above reasons

Somewhere I have read that it is not recomended to have both codecs installed (I think in GKnot 0.26 readme file). Probably this is your problem.
Suggestion: Remove both from the system and install ONLY 5.02, don't rename anything. Well, watch your movies.

try using ffdshow to watch them if that doesn't wrk. It tends to do fine for all codecs.

here is a hint that SHOULD work for you. try uninstalling 4.12, then uninstalling 5.02, then installing 5.02 again. but do not install 4.12 after that. hopefully that will fix everything. and use Windows Media Player 6.4 (stay away from 7/8) or use some other competent player..


FFDSHOW is good but it has a bug in its post-processing. the video starts to flicker or jump when deblock (v) and/or deblock (h) is enabled. this flickering or jumping is really only noticeable on more uniformly coloured areas, such as foreheads or grounds... but for whatever reason, it isn't too noticeable in animation material, more in live action movies (which kinda makes my uniform coloured theory look bad.. but in anime it is still noticable in the background a lot)....

well, i kept Divx 4.12 cause i jave heard and have experimented and i have found that Divx 5.02 is SLOWER and the quality isnt as good, is it true?

About the speed I'm not sure, but believe me DivX5 definately produces better quality than DivX4!

Divx5 = better encoding quality AND better playback quality than Divx4.

Personally I think the Divx5 playback filter is the best for Divx in general, even for Divx 3.11 - other people don't think so, I know...

I agree with you, imho deblocking is better with Divx5 dedoder
I don't like ffdshow (and now i can't since there's a pb with the last nvidia drivers and ffdshow)
