Best option for 1cd Rips... [Archive]

Hi, im very estrict with my encodings, but im tired to encode in 2cds (HQ), can you tell me how can i get a 1 cd rips (HQ), i tried to encode with 2 pass encodings with BLOCKY effect and really the quality is a S**T!.
Gordian Knot recomend aprox 500Bitrate for 2Hs of Movie.
Can any "GURU of a 1cd rips" tell me about that?

I use Gordian Knot for AVS file and encoding Virtual Dub.
