Hi guys

I've been trying to deal with an odd problem that came up a few days ago. I was trying to backup my Simpsons Season 1 R2 collection, and as one of the discs is < 4.7GB, i started with that one.
Ripped the entire contents to HD with Smartripper, fired up Nero 5.5.9.0, selected DVD-Video, added all the ripped files to the VIDEO_TS folder, pressed the button and ...... Nero came back with a message saying something like " VTS_02_0 is not referenced and should not be present". So, i tried a different approach : Selected DVD-ROM (ISO/UDF), selected the options as shown in Derrow's guide, created the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders (in caps), added the files and burned them. Result : A DVD that plays with PowerDVD but doesn't in my standalone. It plays a few seconds and stops sayng 'DATA ERROR'.

Oddly, the same situation with Nero in DVD-Video mode ("VTS_02_0 is not referenced and should not be present") and a DVD burned with Derrow's method worked fine, both with PowerDVD and my standalone (The Godfather II disc 2 (R2)).

Except for the ripping process with Smartripper, the files were untouched.

Any thoughts ?

DB

BTW: I'm using a Pioneer A04, Nero 5.5.9.0 and a Mustek 562 standalone

I have not tried this latest version of Nero, but I had so many problems with the versions I tried, I gave up and now use Primo DVD which is extremely good. I had exactly the same problems as you with the disc playing on the computer but not on the standalone. My writer is an A03 so I don't know if it supports your writer as the program is quite old.
If the disc is smaller than 4.36 Gb (the actual size of the disc) then use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode read & wtite - have a look here http://dvddecrypter.com/guide.asp
Happy ripping

As I've mentioned to others, the only version of Nero I've found to work flawlessly has been 5.5.8.0. I have intermittant success with choosing ISO/UDF. Mostly it doesn't work. Using "DVD Video" option in 5.5.8.0 has always resulted in a working DVD for me. Not that other methods with other software are not valid. Just saying that if you're going to use Nero, I highly recommend you stick with "DVD Video" on version 5.5.8.0.

digital bit,

I too have noticed Nero throwing up the odd objection, nothing to worry about.

Just make an image of the files, then burn.

I use DVD Factory for image burning.

Very easy.

Did you do a GET VTS sectors with IfoEdit ?
I know when ripping the full dvd is should be not necessary, but I had cases where it was. perhaps files are in a strange order on the DVD, don't know, but it's just two clicks to check.

Hi guys

Tks for all the suggestions.
Tried them all, but still no dice.
Nero 5.5.9.0 is now gone. Back to 5.5.8.2.
In fact, the 'get vts sectors' made a whole bunch of mods, but the final result in the standalone was the same.
Same goes with making an image and burn from there.

Will now try to strip the streams and recompile

Again, thanks for the help

i'm not sure what's the problem here. I have Nero 5.5.8.2

i've used NERO with the DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO) compilation and I've had no problems. i've burned video_ts folders with ifoedit copied dvd's (atlantis was the latest one) and i've also used it to burn video_ts folders with stuff I authored in DVD maestro.

I've never tried using the dvd-video compilation, i'm not sure what good that is...i just followed the guide in derrow and mpucoder's site showing how to burn a DVD using NERO and it says to use the DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO) mode. also i choose level 1 and turn off JOLIET.

So far, I feel that Nero kicks ass...I don't want to use anything else at this point...i've burned about 15 dvd-r's with it in the past two weeks and they all work on my standalone oritron piece of crap player
