Multiple passes.

Hi all,
Not really sure where to post this one, but here it goes.

I was using CCE 2.50 and noticed that there was an option for mulipass encoding. 5 passes if I remember correctly.
Now that all fine but got me thinking.
Could multiple passes be introduced to a codec like Divx3/4/5 and/or Xvid ???
Better bits distribution.
Would this have any benifit? Or does Nandub for example get it right on the first pass.

This is more curiosity then anything.
Could be a dumb question, but hey, feel free to flame me. :)

DivX4/5, XviD and Nandub+DivX3 all use two passes to get the most out of your video. Any more passes than this are really not nessecary, nor worthwhile. The only possible reason I could think of for a third pass would be to correct the filesize if the second pass was off by a few MB.
But since DivX5, XviD and Nandub+DivX3 are already very accurate in filesize, there's no need for even a third pass. And instead of a third pass you can just as well do a new 2nd pass with a slightly different bitrate.

Yeah, just what I was thinking.
Most of my encodes are, at most, a few MBytes or sometimes KBytes off.
