I tried 5.5.90 for a week now and did coasters or trash at the strart of the movie. It looks to me that 5.5.90 is somewhat too clever and does things that mess up my Maestro compiles.

When I click on the button to start the movie instead of a black screen and than the start of the film I get flashes of the menu background an flashes of the opening of the film for about 2 to 3 seconds.

Just burnt an identical compile with 5.5.82 and no flashes.

Anyone having comments on this.

Thanks for the links Arky. In one of them you said you lost 5.5.80 are you still in need of it?

I had read some of the threads but noticed a long one being posted just 2 days ago and the experience with Nero was similar to what I experienced. Well looks like a need for a new approach to burning DVDs. What are your present steps for authoring and burning?

I've burned too many coasters with Nero, regardless of version, I've tried them all so Nero's right out for me. IMHO, the best way is to compile your project and then generate a disc image file in Maestro.

From that point, you can either burn the image with Maestro or DVD Decrypter in file mode. With DVD decrypter, the advantage is that you can burn DVD-R's in 2X. Maestro only burns in 1X, regardless of what discs you use.

Yes, generating a disc image file in Maestro is an extra step... but entirely worth it because you're absolutely 100% sure that the disc you burn will be true DVD-Video format and will play on most settop players (provided the blank media is good quality).

my 2 cents

I initially had problems with Nero. However, I switched to the other supplied app, Nero Express, and so far, I've had nothing but 100% success. Using TDK and Verbatim media burned at 2x

As I very rarely bother ripping, I was unaware that DVD Decryptor is now capable of burning disks as well as ripping them. Interesting.
