I don't know how many of you are from europe, but i'm getting a bit frustrated with the lack of cheap DVD-R in Europe...
I have searched myself silly for a good adres in Europe to buy Primedisk or Ritek DVD-R media at a decent price, but to no avail.

So i put on my bold shoes and contacted Ritek directly.
I'm not sure if these kind of posts are allowed on this forum, (if not: moderator just delete it and except my apologies) but i have to try this anyway:

After speaking to the sales person from Ritek i can get genuine Ritek DVD-R on spindle for aproximately 2,5 Euro a disk. I know this is still a long way from the 1,50$ tot 1,9$ prices that is see in the U.S. internet shops, but it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper then what i'm paying now.
The problem is however that this is a Distrubtor and not a dealer, so they don't ship just a single spindle with 100 pieces. So i'm looking for people (from wihtin the European mainland) who would be interested in buying one or more spindels together with me at this price....
As for the quality: the guy from ritek was going to ship me a few samples this week so that i could verify the quality of the product.

If anyone is interesed in this, please let my know....

On the other hand: if anyone knows a cheaper or easier way to get Ritek DVD-R (or a simular quality DVD-R) in Europe, i'm interested also.....

The cheapest I have found is in the U.K. blankdiscshop.co.uk because of the quality. The FWS media and their 3rd generation Data Safe are very good. They had a deal buying them for £0.75 per disk. Quality and a good price. The FWS media is being sold as soon as they have it in stock.

Erwan:

I had a look at Shop4tech but i could not find a statement that they ship to Europe....
Can you give me a few details:

1) what are the average shipping costs to France

2) what about import taxes and VAT ?

3) How fast to they deliver: how many days after you have placed your
order do you receive it.

Thanx
John

1/ here is the details on the cost :

i got a 25 pack (primedisc) which at the time was 39.99$ (on their web site) for 68$ (39.99 + shiping +vat).

you also have to know that VAT here in france are terrible on electronic media (may be the higher in europe).

so 68$ / 25 = 2.72$ for 1 primedisc (ritek) DVD-R.
that is a very very good deal here in france.

but what's more is that you can easlily find rebate coupons on the web for shop4tech.

i did !! so i got a 10% rebate.
so i finally got it for 68$ - 10% = 62$.
62$ / 25 = 2.48$ for 1 DVD-R.

the cheapest media i can find in france is around 10$ ....

2/ about shiping in europe, you have to do it by email.
my contact was paul@shop4tech.com.
if you decide to go for it, you can always mention i told you good things about them, may be this can get me a rebate ! ;) ;)

3/ how fast?
i got my order less than 7 days after the email was sent.

for now, all dvd-r's play flawlessly.

Perhaps i will give them a try. If i do, i will certainly mention
your name....
However i livein Belgium and VAT is 21% on all electronic media,
so i guess it will be even more exepensive then in france.
I'm just going to email them to give me a estimate for an order for 200 disc and if all costs considered, it is cheaper than the 2,50 Euro deal i had with Ritek (this was shipping and VAT included), i will place the order.
Since you are pleased with the Primedisk that you received, i suppose that they were really Ritek disc and not vivistar or some other brand ? I've been reading some concerning posts about shop4tech in other treads on this forum...

nop this time, they were vivastar.
see this thread about shop4tech shiping vivastar instead of primedisc/ritek :
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29470&perpage=20&pagenumber=1

vivastar seem to be unpopular.
for all i'm concerned, i have no pbs with them (plays fine on my standalone player).

but it seems that shop4tech is shipping primedisc again now for they probably got many complaints. some guys got a reshipment. i myself did not bother to ask for reshipment.

VAT is 21% also, plus an additional tax on electronic media.

let me add a few adresses in Germany:

http://www.nierle.de sells Princos -R and -RW for 1,99€
For -RW this is a great price and they work very well for me and a friend of mine (on Pioneer and Sony Standalone)

www.snogard.de sell Princos -R and -RW for 3,19€.

If you want superb Quality try Datatrack for about 3€ from www.nierle.de. This media has the best playback compatibility and even plays back on a Denon Player, that normally only accepts Pioneer media.

http://www.dvd-medien.com/ has Princo Quality Media (which is good for -RW) for a good price and they sell a lot of them on ebay

Hope this Information helps. Within Europe you don´t have to worry about VAT and money exchange any more.

Happy burning

I just received 3 sample disks from the Ritek guys:

They are brandless silver topped. Adinfo says 'Ritek G03'
They have a very dark purple dye. I burned all three of them
with a movie that takes up 4.32 GB of space and they all played
flawlessly (right untill the end) in my settop DVD (Sony).
I'm very satisfied with the results. I still have to test them in a few other settop players, but i'm kind of betting that they will work fine there also. If so, i'm going to order a whole batch of these..

Thanks for all your help !
John
