REMPEG2 or TMPGENC - Which is better?

For re enconding a DVD, which process is faster and delivers better video quality - doing a DVD2AVI and then a TMPGEnc, or doing directly a REMPEG2?

The reason you have a hard time getting answers to these kinds of questions is because there are zealots on both sides who believe their way of doing things is by far the best and they get offended when someone tells you differently.

The speed is about the same, TMPEGEnc may be a little faster. ReMPEG2 is easier to use. TMPGEnc creates a much superior picture. ReMPEG2's encoding algorithm is (according to the notes) based on the "free" source code given away by the MPEG Software Simulation Group. It is used as a baseline but isn't well known for it's incredible quality.

By the way... My way of doing things is by far the best.

Just been starting to transcode some dvds using ReMPEG2..Not totally happy with my results...

Could u possibly elaborate on your transcoding method using TMPEGEnc?
Maybe a small tutorial//or just a link to a small tutorial.
