G'day fellas

Newbe here have just installed gnot coupled with divx 5 codec. Firstly just to say what an excellent program gnot is, avi files are of the best quality ive seen around.

When you right click on the finished avi file and click on the summary tab and look where the video information is; video sample size reads 24 bit on most of my movies, some however have 16 bit instead. These 16 bit video sample size movies are much smaller files (eg JeeperCreepers finished avi file was 600Mb) and the picture quality seems to be just as good as the 24 bit video sample sized movies (eg Conan The Barbarians final avi file was 1.4Gb @24 bit sample size).

My question is:

How can you manually set gnot up to always have the video sample size set to 16 bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keep up the good work.

I bet all 16-bit files you have are made with DivX4, which can be seen as a bug, as all DivX files (including DivX4 files) are 24-bit and not 16-bit.

The movies having different file sizes is normal, since every movie have a different compressibility, there is movies that take 600MB only, other that can easily go over 2GB, it all depends on the amount of action, on darkness of the movie, on the resolution you use, etc

Thank you for your quick response DJ BoBo

Does this mean that if I enode with Divx4 codec, that I will always get 16 bit avi files?

Thanx again for your help

The DivX4 codec also encodes with 24-bit, but Windows shows 16-bit, I don't really know why

BTW, if you wanna see how bad a 16-bit encoding looks like, you can do this in VD somewhere in one of the menus, by setting 16-bit for the output, you'll hate it (color bandings like hell)
