View Full Version : What can I change in second pass?

I apologise if this is a stupid question, I just want to check what 2nd pass settings you can adjust and still use the same first pass stats and hints files. I know in DivX5 you have to leave BFrames/GMC/QP (and the .avs file) the same and all you can really change is the bitrate.

In XviD I assume therefore that you can change the final size, but am unsure as to whether you can change the CC/altCC settings and the new iframe settings. (I realise that there is nothing to stop you changing everything but then the results of the first pass are not accurate). Can you advise??

Thanks
Andy

Erm...

the new iframe stuff is made for the second pass curve treatment, so you _should_ change it (if the defaults aren't good enough). You can change alt. CC, quantizer ranges, hm, that's all what I can think of right now. Ah, and depending on what credits mode you choose you can modify that, too, only case where it is important to be the same in both passes is the fixed quantizer mode for credits.
